Connecting VCC to breadboard?

Hi again,

So im doing another program, it's basically going to be checking a pushbutton then lighting an LED.

Right now I have my breadboard connected like this:

http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSP430_LaunchPad_PushButton  (see the image on down)

but also I have a LED connected to 1.6 (that im going to set to ouput and light if the pushbutton is pressed, which is connected to 1.5 right now)

The weird thing is however, is my board looks "off" aka no LEDS or anything, and I cannot connect it to my computer via USB IF VCC is plugged into the breadboard, soon as I unplug it.....it's working again. I excluded the resistor at the beginning as im just going to use the internal pull up resistor.

Any ideas what might be causing this?
